Working in Adult Mental Health services

Our mental health services provide care and treatment for people with conditions such as psychosis, depression, anxiety, dementia and personality disorder in a variety of settings, including; people’s homes, specialist clinics, hospitals and GP surgeries. Our specialist teams help individuals, their families and carers, when they are experiencing emotional wellbeing or mental health difficulties. We work closely in partnership with other agencies to support the clinical needs of the people we service.

We work hard to ensure that all of our teams are trained in helping individuals using our services to acknowledge and understand why they might be feeling and behaving in a certain way, and support them in their recovery to overcome these difficulties with the most appropriate course of treatment.

Specialist Older Adults & Dementia services

We offer a range of community-based services and specialist inpatient care to support older people with complex mental health difficulties and people living with dementia.

Our older people’s mental health and dementia services sit under the banner of SOAMHS (Specialist Older Adult Mental Health Services). Our SOAMHS clinicians and leaders work together across the trust to develop and share best practice in our field.

SOAMHS provide specialist support and treatment to older adults experiencing mental health issues in the context of significant frailty, disability or complex needs related to the ageing process. We provide Memory Services and Dementia Assessment Services throughout Sussex. We are here to provide early detection, diagnosis, treatment and care for people who have difficulties associated with dementia. We also work in partnership with care and nursing homes to improve the quality of life of people with dementia.

We listen

As the needs of our communities are constantly changing, we are doing everything we can to make sure that our services reflect this, and we are always developing innovative ways to ensure we continue to deliver high quality care. We interact with our service users, their families, carers, friends and other partners regularly to ensure we are meeting their needs and providing the most suitable services. Our growing Sussex Mental Healthline is an example of this as we increase our capacity to provide advice and signposting over the phone, making our services more accessible to a greater number of people.
