Our Community Mental Health Liaison (CMHL) Service within Sussex CAMHS is a mental health consultation service to professionals working with Under 18's across Sussex.
We operate an Access Line from 12pm-5pm, Monday-Friday, in addition to pre-booked consultation clinic slots for professionals who work with young people. Many of our consultations result in “enhanced consultations” that involve families and sometimes young people directly, and a small part of our work involves direct treatment (short term) with young people where appropriate.
We liaise frequently with schools, social workers, GPs and other community professionals that work with young people, and often support professionals in making robust referrals to outpatient CAMHS. We have one team member who focuses on the specialist schools across the county, while others focus on a geographic locality in West Sussex.
In the team we have several OTs, social workers, nurses and 2 practitioners with psychotherapy training – all of whom have been CAMHS clinicians in various other services and have a passion for consultation (essentially, teaching!) with other professionals around child/adolescent mental health.
