
The Learning Disability Parenting Team is an Assessment and Consultation Service offered by Sussex Partnership Trust, working with WSCC Children's Services in West Sussex. The team works with Parents who have a known or a suspected learning disability who have children who are under Safeguarding Concern. We accept referrals from WSCC Children's Social Workers.
The team comprises of a Clinical Psychologist, Speech and Language Therapist, and currently an Occupational Therapist as a service development trial.
The purpose of this service element is to twofold:
- To promote the health, safety and wellbeing of children of parents with learning disabilities.
- To ensure the parent/s with a learning disability receive accessible information about their assessment and any subsequent processes concerning the welfare of their child/children, and any support to enable them fully engage in the processes and make any necessary decisions in partnership with social care and health professionals.
The team are based at the Highdown Building on the Swandean site. We offer face to face and virtual work with referrers and clients based on individual needs.
