The Specialist Perinatal Mental Health Service (SPMHS) is a community-based service for women with severe mental health difficulties (such as depression, anxiety, postpartum psychosis, postpartum bipolar disorder) either now or in the past, during pregnancy or up to a year
after birth.
We offer women, their babies and families specialist support to help them think about what they are going through and how being pregnant, or becoming a parent, has affected their wellbeing and that of their partner or wider family.
We have four teams of perinatal mental health professionals from a range of different disciplines, including psychiatrists, mental health nurses, psychologists, parent-infant psychotherapists and nursery nurses.
We provide our specialist service across West Sussex, Brighton & Hove and East Sussex, within family homes, community venues, maternity hospitals, GP surgeries and children’s centres.
