Apprenticeships
In partnership with the University of Brighton we offer social work apprenticeships. This is to enable existing employees to gain a relevant qualification to progress in their careers to become social workers.
Assessed and Supported Year in Employment (ASYE)
We are one of only a handful of NHS organisations that offers an ASYE programme. This is a great development opportunity for newly qualified social workers (NQSW) to start their career with Sussex Partnership.
Band 5-6 development roles
Following completion of the AYSE programme and once all the competencies of the role have been met, there is a clear at pathway at Sussex Partnership to support NQSWs to progress from Band 5 to Band 6 positions within the Trust.

Training and Development
As a registered social worker, we can offer you a range of opportunities in terms of career progression and continuing professional development (CPD). We have a rolling programme of courses related to social work core skills and values. This includes legal literacy, social justice, social determinants of health and one to one intervention skills. We also offer social workers the opportunity to participate in post-qualifying accredited social work courses at the universities of Brighton, Sussex and Chichester.
We can also offer training to help you develop a range of specialisms to support you in your role. This includes forensics, perinatal, child and adolescent mental health, early intervention in psychosis and older adults.
And to support you to enhance your practice, there are also opportunities to undertake further accredited training courses in cognitive behaviour therapy, dialectical behaviour therapy and systemic family work for social workers.
Leadership development
The success of the social work profession at Sussex Partnership is evidenced by the high number who hold management or leadership roles, including service managers or professional leads.
There are also opportunities for social workers to apply their skills to other teams, including the safeguarding team, mental capacity team, quality assurance teams and the Provider Collaborative teams.
